What this is

A working security-research lab in a 44 m² apartment in Iași. One Xeon, a honeypot exposed to the open internet, a threat-intelligence pipeline, and a stack of local models. It runs at €0 cloud cost — because it is all here, on hardware in the room.

What it actually costs

Zero cloud spend does not mean zero cost. It means the cost moved onto the electricity bill, and that bill is what has become hard to carry.

An 88-thread machine with 503 GiB of RAM does not idle cheaply, and it does not get switched off — a honeypot that sleeps records nothing, and a pipeline that stops has gaps in it. The hardware was bought once. The power is every month.

What support changes

• It keeps the lights on. First and least glamorous. The bill comes whether the research is going well or not.
• It buys GPU capacity. The current card is a RTX 4060 Ti with 8 GB of VRAM. That is the real ceiling here — not the 88 threads, not the 503 GiB of system RAM, just those few gigabytes deciding which models fit. Anything larger runs slowly against CPU and RAM, or does not run at all. More VRAM means the analysis that currently gets queued, shrunk, or skipped simply happens.
• The gap, stated concretely. There are 473 GB of models on disk here, the largest being deepseek-coder-v2 at 235.7B parameters. It does not fit in 8 GB of VRAM and never will — it runs against CPU and system RAM, at a speed that makes it useful for exactly one question at a time. That gap is what an upgrade closes.

A caveat I would rather state than hide: a bigger GPU also draws more power. Any upgrade here gets chosen on capability per watt, not on raw speed — otherwise it makes the original problem worse.

What does not change

Nothing here goes behind a paywall. The dossiers stay public, the methodology stays published, and the disclaimer stays exactly as strict as it is. There is no supporter tier, no early access, and no private feed.

Supporting this buys nothing and unlocks nothing. It just means the work continues.
