Letter D: The Shell Game
Named Persons, Ukrainian Phones, and 67 C2 Servers

๐ŸŽญ The Shell Game

038C proved that four nodes across three shell companies are a single proxy factory โ€” connected by HASSH fingerprint, WinRM management, and port allocation patterns. This letter names the people behind the shells.

RDAP records โ€” the internet's registry data for IP address ownership โ€” contain contact information that operators often obscure but cannot fully hide. When cross-referenced across all nodes in the network, patterns emerge that operators cannot disguise: shared phone numbers, shared NIC handles, shared abuse contacts, and named individuals.

And while following the RDAP trail, we discovered something the proxy factory tried to keep separate from its proxy verification operation: OMEGATECH hosts 67 command-and-control servers for 16 malware families. The same network that verifies our honeypot as a proxy also runs C2 infrastructure for Remcos RAT, AsyncRAT, Amadey, LummaC2, Mirai, and eleven more.

I. The Named Persons

RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) records for IP address blocks contain administrative and technical contacts โ€” real people or personas who registered the network resources. Cross-referencing RDAP data across all nodes in the factory reveals four named individuals.

"Anastasiia" โ€” a single first name, no surname. The NIC handle AA39751-RIPE links three w1n IPs including the primary proxy verification scanner (185.246.128.133) that generated 92,342 honeypot events. The Ukrainian mobile number (+380 is the Ukraine country code, 050 is Vodafone UA) connects w1n's UK registration to Ukrainian operatives.

The Kharkiv email domain directly links OMEGATECH โ€” a Seychelles-registered company with servers in the Netherlands โ€” to Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city. The Ukrainian mobile number (+380 509) is an MTS/Vodafone UA number. Sevastyanov is the only named person whose OMEGATECH registration data points directly to a Ukrainian city.

II. The Ukrainian Connection

Two Ukrainian phone numbers. Two different operators. The same proxy factory.

EntityPhoneCarrierPerson
w1n ltdVodafone UkraineAnastasiia
OMEGATECHVodafone UkraineArtem Sevastyanov

Both numbers are Vodafone Ukraine mobile numbers (the +380 50 prefix). Both are registered as RDAP contacts for infrastructure that shares the same HASSH fingerprint and operates within the same proxy factory documented in 038C.

Q: Does the shared Ukrainian phone prefix prove the operators know each other?
A: It doesn't prove personal acquaintance, but it establishes a common operational geography. Both w1n (UK-registered) and OMEGATECH (Seychelles-registered) have RDAP contacts using Ukrainian Vodafone mobile numbers. Combined with the shared HASSH fingerprint (a7a87fbe), shared credentials (admin:admin/123456), and identical proxy verification behavior, the Ukrainian phone numbers add another independent signal to the single-operator hypothesis.

The email domain @kharkiv.com further localizes at least one contact to Kharkiv. This is consistent with Ukraine's significant presence in both legitimate and illegitimate hosting operations โ€” Ukraine ranks consistently among the top countries for bulletproof hosting activity, according to Spamhaus and RIPE Anti-Abuse Working Group reports.

III. OMEGATECH โ€” The C2 Factory

While investigating OMEGATECH's RDAP records, we found what our honeypot proxy verification evidence only hinted at: OMEGATECH is one of the most prolific bulletproof hosting providers currently operating.

External Intelligence โ€” Breakglass + Intrinsec + GBHackers (2026)

In 2026, security researchers at Breakglass Intelligence, Intrinsec, and GBHackers independently documented OMEGATECH's role as a bulletproof hosting network:

  • AS202412 was registered approximately three months before hosting 67 C2 servers
  • A single /24 subnet (158.94.210.0/24) hosted all 67 C2 operations
  • Upstream transit: Pfcloud UG (German entity, known BPH upstream)
  • Seychelles abuse contact domain: abuse@omegatech.sc
  • OMEGATECH linked to Virtualine, a Russian BPH provider advertised on underground forums
  • Intrinsec honeypots recorded 642,001 attacks from OMEGATECH IPs in March 2026 alone
  • Amadey C2 panel served a Russian-language interface

Our own Elasticsearch OSINT index confirmed the connection: Abuse.ch ThreatFox IOCs in our library show 158.94.210.207 serving LummaC2 Stealer executables, and Socks5 Systemz / ProxyBox botnet C2 domains resolving to OMEGATECH infrastructure. The same network verifying our honeypot as a proxy also hosts the malware that creates the proxies in the first place.

Q: How does the malware hosting connect to the proxy verification we observe?
A: This is the complete vertical integration of cybercrime infrastructure:

Step 1 โ€” Infect: OMEGATECH hosts C2 servers for Remcos, AsyncRAT, Amadey, and 13 other malware families. These malware tools compromise victim machines.

Step 2 โ€” Enslave: Compromised machines are configured as SOCKS5 proxies (Socks5 Systemz / ProxyBox). The victim's residential IP address becomes a proxy endpoint.

Step 3 โ€” Verify: The proxy factory (OMEGATECH + Private Layer + w1n) continuously tests whether each enslaved machine can still forward traffic to Yahoo, Google, and Yandex. This is what our honeypot catches โ€” the verification step.

Step 4 โ€” Sell: Working proxies are sold to customers who need clean residential IPs for ad fraud, credential stuffing, scraping, sanctions evasion, or other operations that require appearing as legitimate users.

Our Cowrie honeypot sits at Step 3. It pretends to be a compromised machine. The verifier (179.43.139.58 or 185.246.128.133) connects, logs in with admin:123456, attempts to tunnel traffic to Yahoo/Google/Yandex, gets a fake success, and adds our IP to the "working proxy" inventory. Then it checks again. And again. 86,239 times over 94 days.

V. OMEGATECH โ€” GPU Profiling from Our Honeypot

Our PostgreSQL intelligence database confirms that OMEGATECH IPs (178.16.54.226, 91.92.240.199, 91.92.243.116) executed GPU profiling commands inside our honeypot โ€” the same behavior documented in TI-010 "The GPU Hunter":

GPU Profiling Command Captured

export PATH=...; gpu_info=$( (lspci 2>/dev/null | grep -i vga; lspci 2>/dev/null | grep -i nvidia) ); cpu_model=$( grep -m1 "model name" /proc/cpuinfo ); echo "GPU:$gpu_info"; echo "CPU_MODEL:$cpu_model"

This command profiles the target's GPU (NVIDIA detection via lspci), CPU model, memory, uptime, and disk space. The data is exfiltrated to determine whether the compromised host is valuable for cryptomining (GPU-equipped) or only suitable for proxy/botnet operations (CPU-only).

When Spamhaus โ€” the internet's most trusted blocklist โ€” drops an entire ASN, it means the network has been deemed so thoroughly criminal that every IP in it should be blocked. OMEGATECH achieved this distinction within three months of registration.

VII. The Business Model, Fully Exposed

We can now describe the complete operation:

  1. OMEGATECH hosts the malware infrastructure โ€” 67 C2 servers running RATs (Remcos, AsyncRAT, XWorm), stealers (Stealc, LummaC2), loaders (Amadey, ClearFake), and IoT botnets (Mirai, Bashlite). These tools compromise victims worldwide.
  2. Socks5 Systemz / ProxyBox converts compromised machines into SOCKS5 proxy endpoints. Each victim becomes a "residential proxy" with a clean IP address.
  3. Private Layer nodes verify proxies against Google and Yahoo โ€” testing whether each enslaved machine can still forward HTTP traffic. Google-passing proxies are premium tier.
  4. w1n nodes verify proxies against Yahoo AND Yandex โ€” testing both Western and Russian market connectivity. 37 rotating SSH client versions defeat fingerprint-based detection.
  5. Working proxies are sold to customers for ad fraud, credential stuffing, scraping, sanctions evasion, SEO manipulation, and any operation requiring clean residential IPs.
  6. Jurisdictional arbitrage protects the operation โ€” Seychelles, Panama, Switzerland, UK, Netherlands, Sweden, Ukraine. No single agency can shut it all down.
"We named them. Milciades Garcia. Anastasiia. Vatlin Mihail. Artem Sevastyanov. They chose shells in the Seychelles and Panama. They chose phones in Ukraine and Switzerland. They chose servers in the Netherlands and Sweden. But they all chose the same HASSH fingerprint. And they all chose our honeypot as a verification target. That choice was their mistake."
